Best ensemble: Sinners
If I were hope-predicting, I would have had Michael B. Jordan, and cite the fact that Chalamet won the SAG last year, so they may not feel the need to reward him again so soon. The smart money is on Chalamet as he won the Golden Globe and Critics Award, although Robert Aramayo’s surprise win at the BAFTAs last Sunday suggest this isn’t a forgone conclusion tonight.
Best actress: Jessie Buckley, Hamnet
Jessie has won all the televised precursor awards so far (BAFTA, Golden Globe, Critics Choice), so this is the prediction I feel more sure about.
Best supporting actor: Sean Penn, One Battle After Another
Sean Penn won the BAFTA, so I'm predicting him. Stellan Skarsgård, his main competitor at the Oscars, wasn't nominated for the SAG, which makes calling this ostensibly more straightforward, but Jacob Elordi could surprise here.
Best supporting actress: Amy Madigan, Weapons
Stunt ensemble: Mission Impossible - The Final Reckoning
These categories could go one of various ways, and I'm almost certain that at least one of my predictions will be embarrassingly wrong. But I look forward to seeing the results, adjusting my Oscar predictions accordingly, and hopefully laughing at the jokes at the ceremony, tomorrow on Netflix!
