Restaurant review: HISAR MEZE BAR (Orpington)

I took my friend Joy here last month for her 26th as a birthday present, before we watched La La Land together. I'm glad to say the restaurant was significantly better than the movie, which epitomises the song, 'Is that all there is?'

Level 4 of my BBFC game, by the way, is purposely very very tricky. Match the film to the film which has the identical rating and short insight as it.

(Note: the short insight of the pairs don't have to be in identical order, for example, one might say 'strong language, violence, sex' and the other 'strong language, sex, violence'. That would still count as a match. Also, because the BBFC are inconsistent with 'ands', some might have an 'and' linking the reasons and others won't).

Product review: OFFICE DEPOT POP-UP FLAGS

As a research student, I read a lot of journal articles on my topic of interest, articles of which I then file away in ring-binders before staring another one. The problem of getting through so many is that, when, in a Eureka moment, I want to go through an old paper, I waste a lot of time sifting through ring binders not just looking the article in question, but looking for the exact sentence that contained the interesting philosophy I wish to revisit.

I DO want to go to Chelsea.

Wowcher buy: THREE PAIRS OF DOUBLE CRYSTAL EARRINGS FROM FAKURMA

The Wowcher website claims that these three earrings collectively retail at £119.97, which I'm cynical about. They were selling at £12 on the Wowcher website, so £4 per pair of earrings, which I thought was reasonable enough.

I really like these dainty little earrings. The option of gold, silver or rose-gold means I can always find a pair that will go with the colour scheme of my outfit, and the ergonomic design means that the earring fits elegantly on one's ear, without the fit being too snug or too loose. I would perhaps have liked the jewels to look a bit 'sparklier', but, for the price I paid, can't complain too much!

Grade: A-/B+

My final post of four from my brief trip to Amsterdam will be a pic spam of photos I took from the fantastic Rijksmuseum. It's funny; when in London, I'm not really one for art galleries (the last time I visited was November), yet the second I'm in a foreign land, I actually engage the artistic part of my brain and want to check out what that country has to offer!

Girl with a Pearl Earring is my favourite novel (tied with Lolita of course), so I was delighted to see a Vermeer painting in the flesh!

Motorsport at the Palace

Today I went to Motor Sport at the Palace, a showcase for cars designed (or adapted from racing). I'm not really into my motorsport; I don't watch any F1 or the like and can't even drive, so I was mainly just there to take photos of pretty vehicles. I'm trying to make the most of living in the best city in the world, see. Below are some of them!

All in all, it was good fun to sit out in the sun (the weather was passable) and have a picnic, but you can do that in your own time, when the weather is even better (say, mid-June). Cars don't fill me with the kind of thrill movies or a square meal do, so I wouldn't say the £15 entry fee was justified. But, if you're into that kind of things and were intrigued by the photos I posted, perhaps you'd get more out of it!

On Thursday, a friend and I visited Ann Veronica Janssen's installation/exhibit at the Wellcome collection. Basically, you enter a room which is pumped with coloured mist, the colour of which changes throughout, and in doing so, altering your mood with the colour. I bought along my Moschino Lolita sunglasses and a lot of photos were taken!

All this making the most of being in London is turning out to be rather good fun!

Graduation nails.

Our graduation robes are the standard black, but the sashes/ribbons down them are yellow and green, so I thought I'd paint my nails accordingly.

Thankfully, as I have quite the arsenal of nail polish colours, I didn't need to buy any new colours to fulfil this, instead drawing on supplies from existing reserves:

 

Colours: Rimmel London in Green Grass, Missguided Mislead (free with magazine years ago) and The Works topcoat

 

I painted four nails yellow, with the ring finger green:

 

I'm undecided about this. As you can see, the Missguided nail polish has sparkles in it, where the green is just a solid block of colour. I actually have Rimmel London in a similar shade to the yellow, but just without sparkles, and I figure I probably should have gone for continuity.

 

Oh well, what's done is done, I ain't removing it! :p
