MY FIRST EVER BLOGATHON!!!!!!!

Work for the actor lies essentially in two areas: the ability to consistently create reality and the ability to express that reality." - Lee Strasberg

Yes, that’s right. I’m organising a blogathon! I’ll be 17 (although I *turn* 17 on April 18th, so it's not a birthdat b'n!) when I do it, and it’s set for the 7th July, 2007. Everyone be there!

Everybody be there.

Oh yes, the topic: The performance that changed your life. The reason is pretty simple, just that acting generally makes or break a movie, and we should dedicate an entire day to praising the good ones. Everybody picks a performance (just one – choosing it will be the hardest part), and then, in manner that they chose – essay, poetry, images, YouTube tribute or anything else you can think of, you tell the world why that performance means so much to you.

I’d really love for as many people to get involved in this as poss. All you need is a performance and a blog. Anyone’s free to participate, whether you’re a die-hard movie fan, or just a casual cinemagoer. And you can make the tribute to any performance you like - I won't judge. More details will come closer to the date, but if you think you’d like to participate, send me an e-mail at plectrumperfect@hotmail.co.uk or just reply here on the blog.

Anyone, but anyone, can participate. Happy blogging!

do you need a blogger account to do it? I have a blog but it's not with blogger

Look, dear. I support Chelsea. I'm not very rich. I live near Charlton. I swear a lot. I eat chips.

... Obviously I'm going to have *some* chavvy elements amidst all my cultivation!

Rocky: For me he just shows that the underdog always has a chance and despite the odds you may face you always have the chance to succeed through hard work.

Is that what you wanted?

Emma said...

Oh, is that your entry?

I'll mention you by name on the day.

...

As the twat who knows nothing about film!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :PPPP

Why not pick Robben for the Shawshank Redemption? He rocked, and I'm not going for that choice (surprisingly.)

craig said...

Ok then, Norbit:

Seriosuly performances don't really mean that much to me. I'll try and come up with one before then tjough.

Dave said...

Ooh, I've never taken part in a blogathon before. But this sounds like a good 'un (hey, it's an expression). Although how I'll ever choose I don't know. But sign me up anyhow.

Anonymous said...

You live in the hole charlton? You por sod!

And I'm thinking about participating. well, I'm thinking about starting a blog first

Emma said...

Thanks Dave! You're the first official recruit. :D

Emma said...

@ Anon - I don't live in Charlton, thank God, but pretty near it. Won't disclose any more, because one of my blog entries pretty much exposes where I live.

Catherine said...

I'll be there with bells on! My first ever participtation, ohh exciting!

bluedaddy said...

Hello Emma.
I think you have visited PseudsCorner before (I may be wrong), but I wanted to let you know that this is up on there at the mo:
http://pseudscorner.blogspot.com/2007/03/crouching-peter-hidden-talent-allwell.html

I am sure you'd like to join in.

Great blog BTW. Do you ever sleep? :O)

Bluedaddy (from the GU blog)

Emma said...

Bluedaddy - thanks! I had a read, and left my comments.

And contrary to belief, I *do* sleep. :P

Woodstock said...

yaaay, it'll be my first blog-a-thon part as well and i sure will die; but emma, 7th july?! knowing my bad memory, i sure will forget till then. but i sure wanna do it, will you remind us as the date approaches?

Emma said...

Yep, I'll definitely remind you. Promise. :)

Woodstock said...

oh darling thanks, so i'll start freaking on which performance i'll choose; two posts down you asked my favorite austen and it is pride and prejudice so far, truth be told, that's the only one i've read; i'm now reading persuasion and loving it; but i've watched emma and sense and sensibility as well... p&p is still my favorite austen movie so far. i love all the other ones, but keira rocks my world in that movie.

Emma said...

Yeah, P&P (95) is probably the best Austen adaptation, and Keira was excellent in the 05 version. There's never been any justice done to persuasion. I do love S&S, though!

craig said...

I think I might do Michael Clarke Duncan in the Greenmile or Jean Reno in Leon.

Emma said...

Wow, Craig, those are actually quite good choices! I'm surprised!

Besty said...

Nice idea Ems. I'd particate if I had a blog, but I'm guessing that you'll be blogging about Brando or Hepburn?

Emma said...

Possibly. Possibly not.

besty said...

Would you rather I asked which movie stars/footballers you'd like to do?

craig said...

Maybe even Portman in Leon!

Clint might get a say if I do a top 3

Emma said...

@ Martin: Possibly. Possibly not.

*whispers* Jose. James. Leo. Jake. *whispers*

@ Craig: it's a top 1, dear. No top 3s!!!

craig said...

Guess it'll just be Rocky then.

And ofcourse they are good choices. While I do enjoy "crap" films I do relaise there is a great gulf in quakity between the likes of Rocky and Shawshank.

Emma said...

OK, so the list so far stands:
Chris (DrunkenonCelluloid)
Luke
Catherine
Woodstock
Dave

So far, so good!

craig said...

What about me?

Brian Erickson said...

Hmm. I'm pretty sure that this intended for people you know (if that's so, I'll look like a total stalker), but if not, count me in!

Emma said...

Brain - everyone's welcome!

Look forward to your input. :)

Ninquelosse said...

Sounds fun. Sure I'll join in...if I can ever narrow it down to one. Current thoughts: Al Pacino in the Godfather (too obvious?) or Brad Pitt in 12 Monkeys...

Emma said...

Ninquelosse - sorry for making you choose! And it is up to you, but if I were going to go for one, I'd pick the latter, just in case someone else goes for Pacino.

And yay! More recruits! This day is gonna rock.

DL said...

Yeah, this sounds like really fun - so count me in too. I'm glad it's so far away though, it's gonna take me a long time to weed through all my favourites and settle on one. Holly Hunter in The Piano, Emily Watson in Breaking the Waves and Diane Keaton in Annie Hall are looking like early contenders right now though.

Damian said...

Great topic, Emma. I'll definitely be participating. Now I just have to decide between what I generally consider to be the best performance ever given by an actor on film (Jack Lemmon in Days of Wine and Roses) or the performance that, as you said, "changed my life" (which would probably be Liam Neeson on Schindler's List).

Brian Erickson said...

Ugh! Both of my choices have already been discussed! I was going to do Neeson in Schindler's List or Keaton in Annie Hall.

M said...

Acting doesn't make a movie.

A lot of great performances are more the product of the cutting room than of a decent performance. Bear in mind many many takes are taken of each scene, of those the editor picks the best one.

Ali said...

Yeah, sign me up. I have lots of free time in July and will be able to do a proper tribute.

Becci said...

Me me me too!!

paul haine said...

You're not even 17 yet? Jesus. I'm so fucking old.

Sign me up, just remind me a few weeks beforehand.

Will said...

Count me for Spacey in the Usual Suspects (I'll send you me email address for a reminder or I;ll forget all about it.)

RC said...

this could be fun...although i'd have to think some about a "performance" itself that changed my life...i think I could figure something out :-)

Barry said...

The performance that changed my life is Ellen Burstyn as Sara Goldfarb in Requiem for a Dream.

Squish said...

Sounds interesting. I may jump on with EMil Jannings or Grace Kelly...

Catherine said...

After much mulling over in my mind (well, during the walk to school) I have decided on Bette Davis in All About Eve.

Campaspe said...

Your birthday blog-a-thon? I'll bite. It is too early for a procrastinator like me to declare a topic, but I can just about guarantee that it will be an old movie.

Emma said...

Lol, I think I've confused some of you!

It's not on my birthday! I just mentioned that I'll be 17 then because it fits with the streams of 7s. 7/7/07. See? :D

My birthday's actually *next* month, don't forget! :D :D

Anna said...

yeah, sign me up too girl, don't know what to pick yet but there's plenty of time left so no worries. hopefully I'll remember the date and not confuse June with July ;D

J.D. Judge said...

This is good. I'll probably join, but it's 3 1/2 months from now so who knows. But it's a very digging question: What one performance changed my life. I don't know. Maybe something by my wife. I have a lot of time to think about it.

But I'll certaintly be joining!

cinefille said...

sure, I'll do it... I have no idea what I'll come up with. I'm starting to realize that performance doesn't matter all that much... stupid film class.

Kendra said...

I'll try to add on to this, I have a whole collage of significative performances in my mind...

Rant1229 said...

You can definitely count me in. Sounds like a grand idea.

Cinemaniac said...

Hey, I'd love to participate. May I join in?

I'd like to join in too, now the problem is choosing a performance!

Brian Erickson said...

SHIT! I might not have access to a computer on July 7th.
